History
1999. In a tiny cottage overlooking Mounts Bay and St Michael’s Mount in the far West of Cornwall, a group of four musicians gathered one February evening to discuss forming a band. Julie and Simon Elwin and their friend Gordie (who would become the group's drummer), had known each other and played together for years. Mark Fox, a local guitarist, had recently been introduced to Julie and Simon. Naked Feet was born.
The band was a vehicle for creative song writing. Original material was sprinkled with a splash of traditional music and songs and the band soon became popular on the local pub circuit.
2000. Naked Feet had their first TV spot on the regional BBC Music Live Millennium celebrations from Marazion. A change of line-up introduced a new energy into the group and in November 2001, Naked Feet went into the prestigious Sawmills Studio at Fowey and emerged with four tracks of beautifully produced music.
2002. A great year for Naked Feet as they were selected to represent Cornwall at the International Pan Celtic Festival, held every year in Ireland, coming second with 'Tees an Castell'.
June saw the second BBC Music Live festival at Marazion and Naked Feet performed throughout the half hour live broadcast. This sparked increased interest in the band and the web site received more than 10,000 hits in the following days. The band returned to the Sawmills and recorded a further three tracks – a complete album was closer to completion, but another line-up change put development plans on hold.
2003. Naked Feet won the Pan Celtic with Mor Menta Sewia. This led to other international opportunities and, in July, the band was filmed by ZDF television to appear in a special programme in celebration of Rosamunde Pilcher’s films. In August, Naked feet returned to L’Orient where they proved even more popular than on their first visit. Upon their return, they performed at the Eden project in a special festival called Zest of the West in a line up which included Ralph McTell and Show of Hands.
2004-6. Naked Feet walk on with more international and local performances. Today, the band is still working together (albeit with a new line-up) but Julie's solo work and songwriting is currently the top priority.
